Annet Neijmeijer (Netherlands, 1960) is a contemporary visual artist who focuses on the profound exploration of space, time, and light. She graduated with honors from the Photo Academy with her installation AEON, in which she explored how to shape these elements. For Annet, space, time, and light are not just physical, measurable components that define the structure of the universe but also fundamental building blocks of human experience—a theme that runs through all her work.
After a successful career in communications for various NGOs, Annet decided to fully shift her focus to art and photography. Her studies in anthropology and professional background in the humanitarian sector gives her a deep, reflective perspective on the world, engaging with the interplay between the rational and the intuitive, the explainable and the mysterious.
In her work, Annet Neijmeijer creates photographic images that evoke suggestions of space without a fixed scale or context. By experimenting with materials and techniques, she seeks to make space, time, and light "experiential" in a new way. Her primary medium is photography, as it is intrinsically connected to these three elements. Annet uses photography’s inherent qualities to blur the boundaries of the image, allowing physical reality to give way to a personal and intuitive experience.
